1989 Domaine du Cayron Gigondas

WTN: Fabulous! This wine was just about perfect for its type. Rich, flavorful (red and black fruits), integrated, smooth, with a wonderful balance of oak, smoothed out tannin, acidity, and fruit, the wine tasting group meeting as the "final four" party loved this wine. It was one of those wines we all thought was "just great wine." This was from Larry Moss' passive cellar, and I noticed that I've been very impressed with all the Rhone and Bandol wines I've tried from 1989. Seems to have been a wonderful vintage in France. Jim

Damn, that description has me salivating. I love a nice Gig with a bit of age. Either I'm picking the wrong ones or they aren't making as many Gigs in the same rustic style that ages these days as they did 15 or 20 years ago. Of course, at my age who the hell wants/needs a Gig that will go 20 years.

Looks like the 1989 Southern Rhones are doing well in general. I hsd the '89 Pegau on Saturday and it was beyond gorgeous.
