Vinho Regional Terras do Sado.
From DFJ Vinhos.
Medium to dark red color.
Considering that this is an economical (cheap), everyday drinking wine, it surprised me by needing a bit of time to come around.
Nothing on the nose at first, but later revealing jammy fruit and woodiness.
At first, the wine was disappointingly thin and watery. With time, probably by the second or third glass it gained weight, complexity and intensity, actually becoming quite viscous.
Medium weight, very spicy, red licorice, red cherry, tangy, crisp, very smooth in the mouth, with a not unpleasant bitter streak to give it an extra edge.
Red cherry and red licorice on the finish.
The wine featured that sort of stewed cherry notes that I usually associate, rightly or wrongly, with Grenache.
A very interesting and enjoyable wine.
Purchased at $10.15 (Canadian).
