2001 Joh. Jos. Christoffel Erben Erdener Treppchen Riesling Spätlese - Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer, Mosel (3/25/2007)
After a 4 year nap, this wine is waking up again. Initial petrol nose gives way to citrus zest and apple dusted with spice. Strong minerality and fantastic acidity on the palate. This starts with an auslese-like richness, but on the mid-palate lifts into an off-dry explosion of flavor, finishing with a kick of acid that cleans everything up but the lasting lime and spice finish. Absolutely delicious, and great with Thai green curry. This 2001 has entered its drinking window, even from a very cold cellar.

Sounds great. Should be lots of fun watching this vintage hit its stride.

Indeed. The wine continued to improve for another hour or so before I stopped sipping. There's about 1/3 of the bottle left that I will check back with tonight.

Second night: even brighter than the first night. The complexity of flavors is more striking. The aromatics show more fruit and less petrol. This is really good, but could use additional cellar time to really strut its stuff.
