WTN: Couly-Dutheil Clos de l'Echo Crescendo Chinon Loire 1997

Rooting around in the bargain bin at Bacchus produced this beauty from the Loire. Still quite youthful-looking. Berryish nose opens up after 30 minutes to reveal a strong scent of cloves and other sweet spices. On the palate, medium-bodied, juicy and dry with a bright, vibrant acidity making this a good food wine. It seemed initially soft but towards the end of an hour there was a very pronounced tannic finish. The wine is drinking very well now and it seems unlikely that there will be further development although it has the structure to maintain its plateau for a long time.
