Please Read! WLDG getting a new home!

by David M. Bueker » Mon Oct 12, 2026 5:11 pm

Hello WLDGers!

As people already know, the WLDG board has long been dealing with performance issues that blocked access and made using the board a challenge. This was due to the age of the platform software, and despite significant efforts has not been reliably fixed.

That’s the bad news. Now for the good news!

A new software platform has been identified, and very soon the discussion forums will be migrating to a new home. Our volunteer tech guru, Jeff Grossman, has been working with the hosting platform migration team, and is ready to start the final process of creating our new home. By this time next week (or sooner) our new digs will be ready.

Some important information:

The new site will be wldg.net (full address is https://wldg.net ). We need to leave the current site active for a little while to allow us to verify data migration, and to allow time for people to migrate themselves to the new site. Please note that the new site is NOT active yet. We’ll let you know when to go check it out.

Your current login name and password will be your login name and password on the new site. No need to re-register. This is an actual migration, NOT a starting over.

As much as possible content from existing threads will remain. There may be some issues with photos or smiley faces, but in general the content will move over as is.

I will be updating this thread with additional information as it is available, including the day the new site goes fully live. Feel free to ask questions & I will do my best to get answers ASAP.

Thanks for being WLDGers, and we look forward to seeing you on the new software!

Woohoo! Let's saddle up and hit the road. This old shack has been holding up for almost 20 years, and it's getting weary. Looking forward to gathering on the other side, without GENERAL ERROR taking us down every hour or so.

Great news! I'm sure some work has gone into this, so my thanks to everyone who's put time into it.

Thanks Walt. We should be fine. It’s a known platform. Jenise and I will kick the tires with Jeff.

Three platforms in 32 years? We're so fickle.

Thanks to everyone for making this happen. I'm currently watching a beloved forum for another hobby die a slow, haunting death, as far as anyone can tell because its platform is being rendered turned to stone by the Medusa of bot traffic, the owners haven't been seen in three years, and nobody has the authority to migrate it anywhere else. Makes me all the more grateful for this place and the people who keep it running.
cheers, Patchen

I asked the Migration Guy to do the big pull on Thursday. I happen to know that he is in the UK so "Thursday" might be "early Thursday" for most of us. With that in mind: if you post something here that is meant to stay around, you may have to re-post it when the new site opens.

Speaking of which... Jenise, David, and I plan to use Thursday and Friday to kick the tires at the new place. We hope to open the doors properly on Saturday.

We’re almost there! Have a few administrative things that need to be taken care of and then we can go live. There was a sneak peek for a day or so, but we had to stop that. We’ll be live soon.

Hopefully we'll be able to open the doors any minute now. In the meantime, some of us have been there posting so there's fresh material for all of you to arrive to!

Initial impressions: The new forum has the look and feel of this one but without the headaches, and it offers many more features. For instance, we'll be able to post pictures 1,000 times more easily than we have here, which we'll love--especially for food posts. Many other pleasantries to look forward to: like the option to edit or delete automatically imbedded at the bottom of each post.
