Ginger lime chicken, udon, smashed cucumber salad, green salad
2022 Kruger Rumpf Burgberg Riesling Grosses Gewachs
Herby and saline with gingery overlays, very dry. Excellent food wine that’s not as friendly on its own. B+
Some old friends over Sat. He has celiac, and she is vegan, so some restrictions, but we were able to do “most people can eat most things”
Corn chips and hummus
Hiyayakko (with GF tamari)
Grilled halibut (Andrea had extra tofu instead), corn, gingery broccoli salad, green salad with grilled delicata
Diebolt-Vallois/ Skipstone Rose de Constance Blanc de Blanc Champagne 6th Ed
So Skipstone is apparently an expensive boutique in California. I guess they contract with Diebolt-Vallois to produce a Champagne, which they sell for premium pricing. Why a BdB is called Rose don’t ask me! Pretty decent BdB- pear, green apple, nice bead, a little chalk. I’d happily pay $40 for it (apparently sells for 3-4X that). B
2021 Brick House Cascadia Chardonnay
I remember having Brick House PN from St Innocent, but think my first from winery. Young, pear and hazelnut, nice grip and a long finish. Some floral honeysuckle notes with air. Nice, with a future. B+
Grilled swordfish (lime/soy/ginger), soba, leftover cucumber salad, green salad
2015 Terrebrune Bandol Rose
I’ve had good bottles of this recently, but this isn’t one. Heavy and heavy handed, drinks more like an orange wine than Provencal rose. Despite apparent acid the palate in flat, and the finish is clipped. C
Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C drinkable. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was the only choice. Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.
