WTN: 2004 J. Lohr Cabernet Sauvignon

by Maria Samms » Thu Mar 22, 2007 11:01 am

2004 J. Lohr (Seven Oaks) Cabernet Sauvignon, Paso Robles: 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Petite Sirah, 4% Syrah, 4% Petite Verdot, 3% Merlot. $12.59 (USD). 13.5% Alcohol.

This wine had a deep red/purple colour. The nose was very floral with hints of rose and violets. Also lots of vanilla and almonds (not nutty, but more like marzipan). On the palate there was vanilla, leather, cedar, black currant, and cinnamon. This CS also had a decent spiced finish.

I really enjoyed this CS. It was very different than most of the fruity CS I have been tasting. Instead it was more floral and spiced. It was nicely balanced and had a very silky mouth feel.

My compliments, Maria.

That is a very good TN. You described the J. Lohr Cabernet well.

Good job!

A very nice tasting note, Maria, well done. This cab is Janet's favorite cab -- we had it five nights ago at the Napa Valley Grill -- your note described what we enjoyed perfectly.

I read your note to Janet -- she said: "It's good stuff. The fruit is there, that's for sure. And the flowers too."

Regards, Bob

Yeah, true notes. I posted on this in Wine Focus we ran and mentioned what a great restaurant wine the Lohr is.
