WTN: Two Older Whites....(short/boring)

by TomHill » Sun Jul 26, 2026 4:55 pm

We had a special dinner Fri. Night at Beef & Leaf w/ some older wines:
1. SineQuaNon Omadhaun&Pultroon White Wine (15.2%; Roussanne/Chardonnay) 1996: Med.drark gold color; rather oxidized old Rouss/honey grahams some toasty/Fr.oak some old White Rhone nose; lightly tart very rich/mouthfilling quite oxidized/sherry-like bit honey graham/old Rouss/nutty dusty/earthy flavor w/ some astringent bitterness; pretty much dominated by the oxidative character & not very attractive. $1284/$42.66

2. Joh.Jos.Prum 1983er Wehlener Sonnenuhr Auslese Riesling (10%) 1983: Deep gold color; rather earthy/dusty very strong botrytis/peachy/apricotty very complex totally mature Auslese nose; fairly sweet/rich rather tart slightly dried out intense botrytis/peachy bit earthy/dusty strong pungent/gout de petrol/smokey/petrol flavor; starting to dry out slightly on the palate but about as perfect an old Mosel that you would expect; fabulous old Mosel R.

More freckelsplat from TheBloodyPulpit:
1. I was pretty disappointed in the SQN Roussanne. Roussannes general evolve in a lovely way & develop a nutty/honey grahams character. This SQN was dominated by an oxidized/sherry-like character & had not evolved in a very good way.
Whereas the '83 Mosel was everything you could ask in an old Mosel. Forgot to note the color of the capsule.
The Mosel was the GoldCapsule
