2023 Pillot Bourgogne Blanc
RIch, ripe and woody, I’ve liked Pillot before but this is a bit “more” than I want. B-/C+
Over to Kath’s sister’s where BIL made a nice paella (seafood and chicken), served with salad, conservas, spinach with pine nuts
2024 Forjas del Salnes Leirana Albarino (Rías Baixas)
Pear, lemon zest, and saline/seashell, floral, fun/ B+/B
Up at 4 to drive to Newark Tuesday, survived one of the most uncomforable flights (I’m a big guy for economy, but guy next to me was 5 inches shorter and 60-80 pounds heavier) to SFO, then called my office to check in. Apparently Dobbs got 4.78 inches of rain (more than July average), and my office flooded. Such fun to be away!
Tuesday and Wednesday in El Grenada (Half Moon Bay) we ate in both nights. Tuesday grilled Niman pork chops, curry blackeyed peas with rice, salad. Wednesday smoked salmon canapes then chicken thighs with cherry tomatoes, rice, and salad,
2021 CVNE “Cune” Rioja Crianza
We are renting some friends’ home on the coast, and he left this bottle for me. Actually I quite like. Darker fruits, a little cocoa, hint of dilly herbs, good length. Nice value. B+
2024 Jadot Pouilly-Fuisse
Supermarket purchase. There’s nothing spectacular or complex here, but for a big production wine it does its job well. Pear, apple, and honeysuckle, light hint of oak, good acids, clean finish.
Good. B
Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C drinkable. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was the only choice. Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.
