WTN: Hill of Beans

  Yet again I manage to open a bottle within days (in this case 2) of the one year anniversary of the last bottle I opened. How do I keep doing this???
  
  Anyway, this feels more like a Dry Creek or Alexander Valley Zin. The depth and sappiness remind me of Teldeschi or Nervo. Maybe it’s the Grenache in the blend, heightening the fruit. Maybe it’s the vintage. I don’t know, but it’s balanced and luscious at the same time. If I could stay upright I would drink the whole bottle.

Ah, the sappiness of the (old vine) Teldeschi zins! I remember that well. Also, that I had trouble describing the fruit, and about six months later I ate my first black raspberries--and there it was. Sappiness is something I've rarely found enough balance to make it work, but your wine sounds good.

Sapidity has been a topic of some debate. I find it in Dry Creek Zins. I also find it in Evangelho Vineyard (Contra Costa) Mourvèdre. Sometimes the Zins have enough acidity to counterbalance, while the Evangelho fruit always does!

My take, and it could be wrong, is that those of us who are absent a sweet tooth find it harder to like/tolerate.
