Bastille Day: whatcha drinking?

Damn! I lost track of what day it was. Well at least I’m drinking the Tablas Creek Esprit de Tablas which was born of a collaboration with Beaucastel.

No wine tonight, but Champagne and Burg (red and white) are on menu for dinner tomorrow (plus some 80s Heitz)

I ended up with a 5:40 doctors appointment at the other end of town which completely tubed my plans for the night. Dinner was two pieces of chicken tenders from the supermarket I stopped at on the way home (I had not eaten since 11 a.m.) and wine was a Washington Sauv Blanc a friend poured me a glass of at my next stop. Not at all what I had in mind!!!!

I opened a vintage 2020 Vacqueyras. Simple but delicious.

2022 Pepiere Muscadet, Clos du Briords. Unfortunately, flat and uninteresting. Certainly not a bad wine, but not worth what I paid, and nothing like previous versions. Purchased on release from a reputable retailer who purchases from the importer, and a second bottle a few weeks ago was the same. Dangit!

We went out to dinner.

We had a glass of Bruno Paillard Brut Champagne as an aperitif and a bottle of red with the food. but the red wasn't French.

We didn't have the Champagne because it was Bastille Day, which we'd totally forgotten about, but because we like Champagne aperitifs.

It was a pink 2024 Domaine Saint André de Figuière Côtes de Provence Rosalie. Tail end of another heat wave with maximum temperatures still well into the 30sC. Sad day for France, though, being beaten by Spain in the World Cup semi-final! We are now going to have a match between France and England for third place which will really test my loyalties!!
