WTN: Reid between the lines

  • 2021 Schloss Gobelsburg Grüner Veltliner 1ÖTW Ried Renner - Austria, Niederösterreich, Kamptal (7/12/2026)
This needed two nights to fully come into its own, as it was rather closed at first. Don’t serve too cold, as it mutes the aromas, and also hardens the texture. At cellar temperature the depth and breadth of the wine become apparent, and it shows the full range of Grüner Veltliner aromas/flavors, ranging from crisp and green to more of a crisp apricot tone. I am a bit of a broken record with this bottling being my favorite Grüner, but each bottle I open affirms that conviction.

I'm a Gobelsburg fan, but have never tried this bottling to memory. And it's your favorite. No 2021, but a store I sometimes buy from shows 23 and 24, will add to next order

FWIW, it’s also Terry Theise’s favorite Grüner Veltliner.
