WTN: Nice 1ers- Briailles white and Jadot red at St George

We met Betsy’s sister and BIL at St George in Hastings last night. We had hoped for outdoor seating, but thunderstorms threatened. We got a nice window table that wasn’t too loud (it never actually rained). Really tasty dinner, I had pate and poulet a la moutarde, Betsy had a dandelion Caesar and moules frites, others had salmon tartar and filet au poivre. Desserts were creme brulee, profiteroles, and chocolate mousse. Everything was great, and it was no corkage night!

2017 Chandon de Briailles "Ile de Vergelesses" Pernand-Vergelesses Blanc 1er
Pear, Meyer lemon, and a hint of hazelnut, bright acids and good grip, long chalky finish, B+/A-

2005 Jadot Beaune-Greves 1er
Double-decanted before going to restaurant. I’ve mostly been holding off on 05s (especially Jadot), but this is in a lovely place. Black cherry, plum, a hint of mocha and earth. Balanced tannin and acid, I don’t usually look to Beaune (other than Mouches) for elegance but it's here. Lovely wine. I have a couple more, but this morning purchased 2 more bottles that were at a store north of here. A-

Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C drinkable. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was the only choice. Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.
