WTN: Nice, bad, and corked Roses, Good Albarino, dead PN

The excellent Bill Mays trio was playing at Maureens Jazz Cellar in Nyack Friday, We enjoyed the great set. Pizzas, salad, grape leaves etc were passable, the wine list challenging. A (vintage unknown) Campuget Costieres de Nimes Rose was flat and short, and even a tad hot as it warmed. C

Sunday we had oysters, halibut cheeks in thyme butter, quinoa/red cabbage/pepper/date salad, green salad with Roquefort dressing.
2023 Fefinanes Albarino
Lemon, nectarine, and seaspray, mineral/seashell finish, fine and a good value. B+

Asian pork tenderloin, haiga rice with furikake, purple broccolini with sesame oil, salad

1997 Sanford Wild Vetch Pinot Noir
OK, no expectations, so not disappointed. Kirsch, cola, and ashtray, it’s dead Jim. C

2015 Terrebrune Bandol Rose
Very disappointing at first, flat and musty. Then I realized it’s lightly corked and opened another bottle., Enjoyed the sound bottle: strawberries, watermelon, grapefruit rind, some floral and herbal notes, good mineral finish. B/B+

A producer worth trying. I think Fefinanes is the oldest producer in Rías Biaxas. The III Ano bottling rivals the Ferreiro Cepas Vejas, Senorans Anada, single vineyard Zarates as top wines in region.

Yes, a favorite producer of mine as well. Very distinctive and enjoyable wines across the board.
