WTN: Horse of a different color

  • 2014 Rhys Syrah Horseshoe Vineyard - USA, California, Santa Cruz Mountains (6/9/2026)
Going on five years since my last bottle, and it’s finally uncoiled itself. The meaty, savory notes that took hours to emerge in 2021 are right there from opening now. Tannins are softened but not absent. The finish has a bloody roast meat tang. It’s unmistakably Syrah, and lovely right now. Glad I stood up this bottle a couple of weeks ago.

I've really enjoyed Rhys Horseshoe PN (regular and Hillside), but don't think I've had a Syrah. Sounds great.

It’s my favorite Rhys bottling.
