- 2005 Karthäuserhof Eitelsbacher Karthäuserhofberg Riesling Spätlese - Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer (6/5/2026)
Brought to dinner by a friend, this was very good, but also indicative of some of my misgivings about 2005 - lots of richness and only moderate acids. Ultimately it felt more like Auslese, good Auslese to be sure, but not quite what I’m looking for in a Ruwer Spätlese! Lots of ripe fruit, and a blanket of sweetness that has a brown sugar edge to it. Delicious to be sure, but needs to be paired with flavorful food or sipped after dinner.
