1994 Umani Ronchi Pelago Marche IGT - this was the first vintage of this wine issued by this Marche producer and the blend was 50% Montepulciano, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 10% Merlot. Complex nose of red fruit (cherry?), some cigar box cedary notes and also some herbal elements. The wine is still quite dark, and presents a smooth lengthy profile with a lingering finish. Glad I bought it (it had won a prestigious award in London and the local agent here tipped me off about it) and glad that it still shows quite well. I still have 1994 through 1997, so a vertical tasting may be in order.
