- 1991 Beringer Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Private Reserve - USA, California, Napa Valley (6/5/2026)
From my late father’s cellar, this was opened with friends, and made everyone very happy. It needed maybe 30 minutes to shed a little bottle funk, but after that it was showing fruit, along with a full array of developed, savory aromas and flavors. The mouthfeel was suave, with the tannins nearly resolved, leaving just enough to create a frame holding all the beautiful Cabernet tones together. Along with the otherworldly 1991 Monte Bello, and outstanding 1991 Montelena, this wine joins the podium of my favorite California Cabernets.

I am not surprised! '91 is my favorite Napa vintage ever. Even aside from the big names and Cabernet Sauvignon--wines like a Tor syrah and a Newlan pinot were exemplary.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

I have come to feel the same way about 1991
