TN: 1998 Fox Creek Reserve Shiraz

1998 Fox Creek Reserve Shiraz - today, I believe that Fox Creek uses more French oak for their wines that they used to - it has always been a mix of the two, the ratio tailored to the wine being made. This shiraz was not to heavily oaked and it seemed to be more French than American. The colour was lighter that the last time I opened one, and the nose was superb with both spice and floral elements and it was full bodied and had very good length. Superb showing and should hold awhile. First bottle I have opened since I bought it a decade plus ago and it was worth the wait! They typically sell wines about 8 years or so after the vintage (selling 2019 in other markets) sadly there is none listed here at the moment of I'd top up!

It had a bad economic time a year or so ago and was up for sale and another winery bought the fir from the receiver, so getting back into all the old market places may take some time. They also make/made (?) a blend called JSM which was shiraz and cab franc as cab sauv, It was quite good - I'll have to try one of my bottles soon.
