  • 2001 Dönnhoff Schloßböckelheimer Kupfergrube Riesling Spätlese - Germany, Nahe (3/31/2026)
From my father’s cellar, this needed an hour to limber up after nearly 25 years in a bottle. Once it did the fruit freshened, and the underlying power of the site drove the wine like a high-speed freight train - weight and depth but with a flash. I won’t make future development pronouncements based on this bottle, as I know it had some bumps in its journey to get to me, but if a less than pristine example is this good then I have high hopes for my remaining original release bottles.

Cool that you and your dad shared an appreciation for Dönnhoff's wines, David. I know your tastes diverged elsewhere but its nice to have a common ground with your loved ones.
