WTN: Two Jaffurs Syrahs '02....(short/boring)

We had these two Jaffurs at our tasting at Laura's Pig+Fig ystrday:
1. Jaffurs Syrah MelvilleVnyd/SantaBarbaraCnty (14.7%) 2002: Very dark color w/ slight bricking; strong c-c/Syrah/black pepper very spicy/blackberry/boysenberry/Syrah fairly pencilly/toasty/Fr.oak fairly complex lovely nose; classic c-c/Syrah nose; quite tart/tannic/acidic very c-c/black pepper/Syrah light blackberry/Syrah rather hard/tight/lean classic SRH Syrah fairly pencilly/oak complex flavor w/ modest chewey tannins; very long/lingering classic c-c/peppery Syrah finish that tracks flavor; quite hard/austere on the palate but much more distinctive Syrah.

2. Jaffurs Syrah BienNacidoVnyd/SantaBarbaraCnty (15.0%) SantaBarbara 2002: Dark color w/some bricking; some blackberry/boysenberry bit black cherry cola/BN Syrah light pencilly/oak nose that speaks of BN Syrah; much softer/riper fairly black cherry soda/BN Syrah complex flavor bit metallic/dyring out w/ modest bitey tannins; very long ripe/black cherry cola finish that mocks flavor; a bit dried-out on the palate and not going to improve at all, distinctively BN Syrah.

More ciddyscat from TheBloodyPulpit:
1. These two were a close call & showed lots of mature Jaffurs Syrah character. I slightly preferred the Melville because of its more distinctive classic SRH character, but man was it pretty rugged on the palate. Both of these had seen better days & not going to get any better.
