- 2002 Domaine des Baumard Savennières Clos du Papillon - France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Savennières (3/11/2026)
A bottle from my late father’s cellar. Why he bought it is a mystery, as I am not sure he even knew what Chenin Blanc was.
Anyway, despite the checkered history of 2002 Loire Chenin, I was hoping for the best, and go figure I actually got it. Bone dry…really, deserts are lush compared to this wine…there’s still, at almost 25 years old, a bright lemon zest top note floating on top of that wet wool and a saline finish. Quite a delicious bottle, and a pleasing result regardless of my low expectations.

It's been quite a while since I've seen a note on a Baumard Chenin. I haven't heard much about them since the whole Quarts de Chaume/cryo-selection brouhaha.

There will be QdC notes coming soon. All courtesy of bottles buried in my dad’s cellar.

Nice! I love aged Savennieres and was glad to hear your bottle was still in good shape!
