WTN: Over Under Sideways Down

by David M. Bueker » Wed Mar 04, 2026 10:55 am

  • 2015 Bedrock Wine Co. Carignan Heritage Wine Vineyard Under the Mountain - USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Clara County (3/4/2026)
Sampled over two nights, this was a dramatic and delicious evolution from my prior bottle in late 2020. Where the prior bottle was spiky, this one was silken and evenly bright. The surprisingly sapid fruit (dark red cherry for me) buffered the feral nature of the Carignan but in a cliffhanger way, keeping me on the edge of my glass, with a sense of tension. I am rarely as viscerally excited by a glass of wine as I was by this, so it’s sad that I have no more. That said I am glad I opened it, as it was a remarkable showing.

Nice Yardbirds shout out. And this was by far the most evocative note written about a Carignan that I've ever read. Wish I had some to try.

It was the most evocative Carignan I have ever tasted!

And haven't you said you don't actually care for the grape?

So found a OUSD clip on Youtube, but later, with Page not Beck. Just shows his hands though (focuses on Reff and drummer, whose name I don't remember)

Wine sounds good!

Drummer was Jim McCarty (didn't follow them, but it's in the narrative on the vid).

I’m not terribly fond of it. It’s not as if it’s Sauvignon Blanc though.

My bad, it was Renaissance he formed with his sister post-Yardbirds.
