WTN: Chester'sAnvil GWT Mendocino '10....(short/boring)

Opened this white for Susan last night:
1. Chester'sAnvil GWT MendocinoCnty (13.5%) Lagier-Meredith/Pott Wines/Napa 2010: Med.gold color; somewhat earthy/herbal slight pear/GWT rather savory bit subtle/low-key/subdued nose; fairly tart bit austere/briney herbal/earthy/chalky very dry raspy/briny flavor; med.long dry/herbal/chalky austere finish that mocks flavor; a rather dry/austere WW w/ little GWT fragrance; reminds mostly of a Trentino Traminer more than anything; a quite interesting savory white.

More chestbreak from TheBloodyPulpit:
1. The Chester's Anvil wines are a cooperative effort of Steve & Carole & AaronPotts, their neighbor up the ridge. It is, of course, named after the anvil that Steve wheedled from Chester Brandlin for an emergency cultivate Steve did for Chester. It dates back to the late 1800's from England. Once Steve got it bright & shiny, it is indeed a work of art.
Not sure where they got the GWT grapes in Mendo Cnty. Probably a pretty OV vnyd. This wine was a one-off I believe.

I know there's some old Gewürztraminer in Anderson Valley; that would be my first guess, Tom.

Didn’t Casey Hartlip farm some Gewurz?

Yeah, Steve....the Anderson Vlly makes absolute sense.
Casey did have some (somewhat old) GWT at Ordway.

Maybe they got some from Navarro? Seems unlikely, but…

There's no shortage of Gewurztraminer in the Anderson Valley. Husch and Handley both bottle a Dry Gewurz, though I have no idea if those grapes come from estate vineyards or are purchased from a grower.
