Tried these two Italian wines over the last few days:
1. De Fermo Loreto Apentino Bianco d'Abruzzo Italian WW (13%; 60% Pecorino/40% Chard; Concrete; NeilRosenthal) Nicoletta de Fermo 2024: Med. gold very cloudy color w/ lots of tiny bubbles that dissipate; quite phenolic/resinous/very ViniMacerati very slight floral/fruit quite earthy/loamy not very attractive nose; very tart/tangy quite earthy strong VM/phenolic/resinous little fruit unattractive austere VM flavor; med.long earthy/concrete finish that tracks flavor; a quite young VM that is quite unattractive now but badly needs 5-10 yrs of age. $34.00 (SFW&S)

Cantina Massara Dd'OC: Verduno Pelaverga (13.5%; The Piedmonte Guy/Shafer/MN) Cantina Massara di Burlotto Gian Carlo/Vedrduno 2023: Fairly light Pinotish color; quite fragrant strawberry/Pela/floral/rosepetal bit Brachetto-like light earthy somewhat Pinotish quite fragrant nose; fairly tart rather earthy/loamy lighty strawberry/Pela/spicy/floral/rose petal bit rustic flavor w/ light tannins; very long bit rustic/earthy finish that mocks flavor; the nose is about all this Pela has going for it; it's a bit rough/rustic/earthy on the palate but a very pretty nose; bit pricey for just a nose. $38.00 (SFW&S)

1. Pelaverga (Piccolo) is an indigenous variety to the Piemonte that's fairly rare to find. It's plantings are in decline because it can't win the economic battle w/ Nebbiolo in the Piemonte.
