Saturday evening in a celebration of Blair's life on the 10'th Anniv of his passing, we had some of his favorite wines at Laura's Beef&Leaf:
1. Weingut Reuscher-Haart Uber-Schwang Riesling Feinherb Spatlese (11.5%; A.P.Nr. 2 596 470 08 12; Weingut-Reuscher-Haart.De; TerryTheiseSlctn) 2011: Med.dark gold color; strong Mosel valvle oil/petrol very fragrant Mosel/R/floral/mango bit pungent very lovely very complex Mosel that's still fairly youthful; fairly tart strong Mosel valve oil/gout de petrol quite dry light floral/mango/R rather mineral/stony fairly lithe/savory/racy/briney bit pungent very complex flavor; very long/lingering near-dry strong petrol finish that mocks flavor; a wonderful Mosel show some maturity but will probably go another 10 yrs at least; I was expecting it to be a bit off-dry & show more Spatlese character but it had not put on much weight over the last 10+ yrs.

More bipplefrit from TheBloodyPulpit:
1. Blair, one of the very first members of my wine group, starting in 1973, continuing until about 2014, became very passionate about wine, studied it intensely, purchased many btls. One of my most favorite people in our wine group. In his day job, he was one of the Nation's most highly regarded mathematicians in the area of numerical mathematics. He imparted that enthusiasm onto his daughter, Stacey. She & David are enjoying the largess of wines Blair left behind, which she shares with us frequently. Some of his wines were of legendary status.
Blair was extremely fond of sherries & we bought many of them from Darrell Corti. These two sherries were some that he bought. Is interest in wines began as the legendary '71's were first coming on the market & he left behind a beautiful stash of older Germans. This Riesling was from my stash.
The two sherries were very complex and dominated by their complex/old Sherry character. The Oloroso went wonderfully w/ Laura's orange/caramel creme brulee.
