1997 Closel Savennieres Les Coulees - while pursuing my task of weeding out wines past their prime, I occasionally come across one that exhibits some degree of interest. This chenin blanc was well past prime but it showed some surprisingly attractive facets if only temporarily. A nice mid amber colour, and a amazingly showed almost no indication of oxidation initially. Some sweet apple in the nose and a balanced mid weight wine. It lasted about 20 minutes and then put up some obviously oxidation in the nose and slid from there. Sic transit gloria chenin. A pleasant last gasp, though.
