Netscape Community Poll: In spring and summer, I drink ...

How does the change of seasons affect your wine consumption? Do you drink more wine or less wine during the warmer months than when you're holed up for the winter, or doesn't it make much difference? Cast your vote, and let's see how the numbers break out in our Netscape/CompuServe Community poll!

The main change in my wine acquiring/consuming habits come springtime is that I actively seek out the previous year's whites and the previous-to-that-year's reds, since they both seem to come onto the scene in the spring. I love a mix of both red and white wines at all times of the year, though the chance that I'll be opening a nice Vidal, Grüner Veltliner or Sauvignon Blanc with my salad of bitter greens does increase, admittedly, once spring time rolls around.

Since most of the wine I drink is either white or more-delicate red, come summertime, my habits don't change much. I do dive into Rose more often, if only because they're fresher and more available (although I spent this winter finishing off my '05s in anticipation for '06). Maybe this year I should switch it up and drink nothing but chilled Porto all summer long...

Whites and rose' consumption will definitely pick up...especially as the weather turns warmer. Anything wine that can be consumed chilled.

There will likely be more whites and more fruity wines meant to be drunk chilled.

Not to mention we'll be trying a Sangria recipe or two.
I can certainly see that you know your wine. Most of the guests who stay here wouldn't know the difference between Bordeaux and Claret.

Sauvignon Blanc and Gewurztz to go with all of the nice crunchy veggies and we seem to drink more fruit forward reds to go with the bbq meats...but of course I can always be coaxed into anything tasty.

I think my consumption probably increases a bit, if only because the extended daylight hours give me more energy and I'm not ready to hit the sack at 9pm.

White consumption definitely increases, and I'm looking forward to expanding into different whites this spring/summer (riesling & albarino), since up until a few months ago I've been very primarily either chard, SB or reds.

I still have an irrational bias against rose for some reason.

Time to get over that. Go buy a few bottles of European Rose. Every country produces it -you're bound to find a few you love.
