2008 Black Hills Estate Nota Bene - this wine is from a B.C. winery, and it was made by one of the best winemakers we have had here, Senka Tennant. She and husband Bob, set up a winery called Black Hills back in the 90s and made Bordeaux style wines that received quite a bit of approval. This one is made from 48% cab sauv, 41% merlot and 11% cab franc. It is a quite dark wine with obvious Bordeaux aspirations, though coming across as significantly 'larger' than most Bordeaux. I expect that it would get approval from any Cal-cab fans.

Interestingly, they sold their winery and set up another one called Terravista and they made a lot of excellent complex white wines (and small lots of syrah which I took care to buy and cellar) and she has since moved on again and acts as a consulting winemaker to other wineries.

I think there is a bottle from this winery lurking in my dad’s cellar.

Most notable among her other winery connections, Lariana. Her viognier--a grape I normally dislike intensely--is shockingly good.
