New (Awful?) Taste Profile in Cabernet Sauvignon!!! Jalapeno Pepper!

OK. Here's a really wierd one: Negociants' "Central Coast" 2004 $13 wine Didn't note the producer

Very, very pronounced nose and flavor of JALAPENO PEPPER. Spicy, too. Just like pepper juice.

I've tasted raw bell pepper. I've tasted caramel. I've tasted (positively) leather and pencil shavings. But jalapeno pepper juice?

Sounds like an unripe character to the wine.
Capsicum (bell pepper) is a known character of cabernet sauvingon and when unripe it is more pronounced. Unripeness can also introduce a pepperiness.

Well...it does make me question the wine shop which is selling it.

You know, though, I would ALMOST rather drink this than a caramel/vanilla bomb.

I tasted a sample of a Sauvignon Blanc one time that had a big streak of jalapeno running right through the middle of it. It was French, but that's all I remember about it, other than of course, that jalapeno! Thing is, I thought at the time that even this wine might have a food match - chicken enchiladas for example.

Ugghh Brian...don't think I would have liked that! Well, maybe with my nachos. Interesting...never tasted that before either. I wonder if fellow WLDG member, Larry Greenly might like it...LOL!
