WTN: ESJ syrah and a Santorini

No wine Tuesday with black cod in miso, rice, and bok choy

Wednesday grill skirt steak in a fish sauce/lime marinade, braised escarole with peppers, caprese, and sweet potatoes
2013 Edmunds St John “North Canyon Road” Fenaught/Barsotti Syrah
At first this was a bit lean, though with an attractive peppery edge to the slightly sharp fruit. But with air it seems to get firmer and deeper, with richer black fruit and eventually a touch of bacon fat I think this still needs some time, but with air I got a lot of pleasure out of now. B+

Thursday herby chicken meatballs with a lemony yogurt sauce, spaghetti with a spinach/walnut dill pesto, and arugula salad
2023 Hatzidakis "Familia" Assyrtiko (Santorini)
This reminds of a riper Muscadet, citrus and pit fruit with a saline/oystershell minerality, bright acids, good length. B+/B

Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C drinkable. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice. Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.
