WTN: Oui ou Chinon

by David M. Bueker » Mon Oct 13, 2025 8:09 pm

  • 2020 Domaine Bernard Baudry Chinon Les Grézeaux - France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Chinon (10/12/2025)
Going on three years since my last bottle and this has slimmed down a lot. What once seemed like a super-ripe, dare I say it, solar vintage of Grezeaux has slimmed down and now shows like Chinon, perhaps even shut down Chinon. All the light red fruit and green tobacco are present, but slightly muted. It’s definitely not the “modern” version I opened in early 2023, so I am intrigued to follow this and see where it goes.

Hell yeah. Baudry's one of the few producers where I always have faith that the wines will come around with enough time. Though I do agree with your assessment on '20 showing rather ripe/fruit forward for Grezeaux. I like it a lot (still have a handful in storage), though not as much as the '21 which is one of my favorites of recent vintages - fruit's more dialed back there, and the gravel/tobacco are there in spades.
