Friday a one pot dish of coriander and herb chicken with dandelion greens and kale along with couscous
2010 Lafouge “La Chapelle” Auxey-Duresses 1er
Black cherry with a hint of blue cherry, earthy, autumn leaves, still a bit of structure (tannic and acidic), nice length. B+

Saturday oysters, herb/mustard hake, burrata caprese, corn on the cobb, salad
2007 Jean Michel Guillon “ Les Bras” Santenay Blanc
Held breath, but this isn’t oxidized. Decent acids, fresh, lemon and vanilla, good length, I’m thinking this is a bit more oak driven than my ideal but for the level nice showing for an 18 year old. B

Sunday Chinese poached chicken with scallion, sesame and soy, grilled king oyster mushrooms, hakurei turnips, and rice with furikake (and more burrata caprese)
2015 Donnhoff “Felsenberg” Riesling Grosses Gewachs
Yowza. Really drinking well with a bit of air. Citrus, pit fruits, gingery spice, and the slightest hint of petrol. Rich fruit, lively acids, long finish. A-

Monday we went to Osteria Scalini in Bronxville to celebrate BIL’s birthday. We all shared:
Roasted watermelon with speck bacon, goat cheese and balsamic glaze
Arancini with pancetta & peperonata
Poached peaches with stracciatella, speck, & pistachio
I had a glass of the 2022 Villas Solais “ Santadi” Vermentino (Sardegna)
Modest acids, citrus with a little yellow plum, hint of grass, a bit clipped. B-/C+

I had the lamb shank with potatoes and peas; Betsy (and everyone else) had the pork chop with vinegar & peppers (came with polenta but Betsy substituted bucatini carbonara)
1995 Fontodi Flaccianello della Pieve
I had double-decanted at home. Resolved tannins, black cherry and dried cherry fruit, leather, just a little tobacco and dried herb. Excellent length, ready to go and in a good place. A-/B+

Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C drinkable. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice. Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.

Drank my last 1990s Flaccianello in 2019. Glad I did as I shared it with a dear friend who didn’t make it through COVID, but wish I still had more.
