1989 Scharzhofberger Riesling Trockenbeerenauslese, Reichsgraf Von Kesselstatt

Beautiful deep-gold color. Intense riesling aromas--and a good lot of botrytis, of course, jump up from the glass. A very complex bouquet indeed. The wine has a beautiful, thick mouth-feel. The flavors follow the aroma--a delightful, concentrated, and complex combination of riesling and botrytis. The wine is of course intensely sweet, but exquisitely balanced by acidity. Rather than being cloying it dances on the palate and then bursts into a peacock-tail finish that stays on the palate for minutes. You have to sip this wine in small mouthfuls to avoid the palate being overwhelmed, but each sip leaves you wanting more. There is no hurry to drink this wine up, but it's hard to imagine it getting any better than it is now. Triple Curly with an extra Woo! Woo! Woo!

Ah 1989. The semi-modern 1976. Similar conditions with somewhat better winemaking.

I hope I live long enough to see if 2006 saw a similar winemaking improvement.
