WTN: Two Whites at DinDin...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Tue Sep 09, 2025 11:51 am

Tried these two new wines last night for DinDin:
1. Six Eight Nine Calif WW (13.0%; Chard/SauvBlanc) Six Eight Nine Cllrs/Napa 2021: Light yellow color; pleasantly fragrant/fruity quite simple bit bland nose; lightly tart/tangy/metallic light-bodied pleasantly fruity quite simple rather dull/bland flavor; med. lightweight finish that tracks flavor; not a bad nor flawed wine but just incerdibly boring; very disappointing. $17.00 (SFW&S)
_______________
2. Weingut Carl Ehrhard Riesling Old School Feinherb Rheingau (11.0%; Med.dry; A.Pr.Nr. 24 033 003 24; 30 yr old Estate vines; Marchetti Co/Cleveland Heights/OH) Carl Ehrhard/Rudesheim/Rheingau 2023: Med.light yellow color w/ some tiny bubbles swirling about that dissipate; fairly strong pineapply/R/mango/floral slight buttery/Rheingau slight mineral/Mosel valve oil quite pretty Rheingau nose; bit spritzy on fron of palate fairly sweet (Spatlese level) some tangy/saline some R/floral/mango/pineapple slight Rheingau/mineral/steely slight petrol flavor; med. finish that mimics flavor; a rather simple Rheingau that's pleasant enough but just that; fairly priced at $21.00 (SFW&S)

More skeezlebort from TheBloodyPulpit:
1. 6 8 9 is an operation/wnry of Curtis McBride & Kent Rasmussen. They have also taken the Ramsay label (Kent's value wine, named after his wife) under their wing. This is a new label that I thought I'd give it a shot.
Being Kent was involved, I was expecting a whole lot more from this wine. But so boring & pretty disappointing.

What's with the name? Six Eight Nine--is it an address?
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

689 is not an address, Jenise. Those numbers are apparently lucky numbers in Chinese folklore, according to their WebSite.

Yes, the Chinese are very conscious about numbers and luck.

"In Chinese culture, numbers are considered lucky or unlucky based on their pronunciation, with the most popular lucky numbers being 8 (sounds like "to get rich"), 9 (sounds like "long-lasting"), and 6 (sounds like "smooth" or "flow"), while 4 is particularly unlucky because it sounds like "death". Other lucky numbers include 2 (for good things coming in pairs) and 3 (for the stages of life), and numbers are carefully chosen for important events like weddings or property purchases."
