WTN: Bruno Colin Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru La Truffière '04

This is my first run in with a Colin Jr. wine, but being a fan of Michel's (Chassagne anyway), I figured that the acorn doesn't fall far from the tree. -Much oak. Apple flesh and pencil shavings dominate the nose; there is pear fruit, green banana, flint and liquid smoke underneath. There remains a flash of acidity on the finish, but two things are made clear upon tasting this wine: 2004 was a delicate white Burgundy vintage that required a gentle and informed hand regarding barrel selection (even for a Cru like Truffière, which IMO, is only a notch below Grand Cru), and that the Colin family is a Chassagne-Montrachet producer -I would certainly guess this wine to be Chassagne blind. It doesn't quite have the pedigree or emphasis of PM 1er Cru. All that said, I certainly opened it early and in 5 or 6 years, the oak and fruit may finally meet on the square.
