WTN: Produttori 2010

by Patchen Markell » Fri Jul 04, 2025 6:06 pm

Andrea had a hankering to make braised beef with young turnips, so I went looking for a suitable middle-weight Nebbiolo with a little bit of age on it. Settled on a 2010 Produttori di Barbaresco, the basic. First of a few, decanted a couple of hours ago, and it’s just starting to come around: some bright cherry fruit, fennel seed, orange zest, and tar. Still seems a little withholding at the moment, but I just took another sip and found it more relaxed than even 10 minutes ago (or maybe it’s just me!). Very good with the promise of further development….

Big Produttori fan here - have something like 10 cases ranging from 1990 to 2016. Mostly single vineyards but I have also found the regular wine to be excellent - I still have the 1999, 2013, and 2014 regular and you have reminded me to get into them! Used to take quite a lot of effort to buy the various single vineyard wines as they were sprinkled all over the place in our government wine system. I haven't been in a rush to drink them as they hold up very well to aging. Now I'll make a point of trying some, perhaps starting with the regular wine.

I’ve mostly bought the regular because it’s easy to find and such a great value! think I also have some 08, 13, and 16 regular, and maybe some more recent too… and a bunch of the single vineyards from 13, at least. The regular is also a go-to for us on restaurant wine lists, in whatever vintage is available.

I will say: this bottle REALLY started to sing between hours two and four.

Look forward to your report!
cheers, Patchen

I have 90, 99, and 16. Wasn't able to keep my hands off the others.
