WTN: Ridge Zin Pagani Late Picked '92....(short/boring)

by TomHill » Thu Jul 03, 2025 3:20 pm

We had this relic last night at our tasting of Older Ridges at Pig+Fig last night:
1. Ridge Zin LatePicked PaganiRanch/SonomaVlly (15.8%; 80% Zin/15% Mataro/5% PetiteSirah; bttld May 94; SaH: 28.0%; RS: 0.1%; Drk: 4/94-??: PD) 1992: Fairly dark w/ considerable browning; some alcoholic/late hrvsty fairly overripe/Zin/grapey bit cedary/pencilly rather vanilla/Ridge oak still fairly youthful/grapey nose; soft some hot/overripe/alcoholic very grapey/blackberry/boysenberry/ripe Zin some Ridge oak flavor w/ light hot/gentle tannins; short grapey soft finish; some hot/alcoholic wine w/ loads of overripe/grapey character but not showing a lot of complex mature character; no signs of oxidation nor drying out but probably not going anywhere; remarkably good condition for its age. $16.49 (K)

More biddlefurt from TheBloodyPulpit:
1. I was quite surprised how good this relic still was. Still lots of grapey/overripe Zin character. But it hadn't developed the complexity you would expect of a Ridge of this age. Draper hadn't predicted in his TN how long-lived this wine would be. I remember liking this wine quite a lot on its release, but would not have guessed it would go out this far in age. Just shows what I know!!
