Took these three wines to the home of a local chef whose menu included collard greens and smoked ribs. I thought there'd be all kinds of wines there and worried in advance that I was over-sharing, but in fact another family had to cancel at the last minute and the only other bottle opened was a charming sparkling Garganega (didn't get the producer name, wish I had) so my choices were perfect.
2022 Domaine Bernard Baudry Chinon Rosé Cabernet Franc
1 yr and 1 wk later than my last bottle, my note at the time still stands: Pale pink color. On the palate all strawberry and peach, and a sweet aftertaste. Very good, though of the two Loire roses I've had lately I prefer the drier Joguet.
2010 Buty Syrah Beast Clone Noir Phinny Hill Vineyard Horse Heaven Hills
Youthful color with bright red and black berry fruit and tangy acidity, not much secondary development. Young and fresh for its age and showing very new world, especially next to the Novy (also a '10).
2010 Novy Family Wines Syrah Garys' Vineyard Santa Lucia Highlands
Four years since my last bottle. Dank black color. Complex old worldish notes of tar, spice and roadside flora on black fruit made a beguiling package, but even being served with smoked ribs couldn't prevent the assertive toasted barrel notes (not unlike Argentinian malbecs) that I didn't note in prior bottles from being really annoying.
