Looking Through Rosé Coloured Glasses.

A very well thought out tasting downtown about a week ago. 16 well versed participants seemed to thoroughly enjoy the event. 7 wines poured over the course of say 2 hours with cheese and salami, baguette.

The reception wine was the NV Deliance Cremant de Bourgogne Ruban Rosé. Close to the Givry area, Chardonnay and PN. Floral, citrus, red fruits, biscuit, cherry and raspberry noted by all on the nose. Fresh berries and citrus with the crisp acidity.Lively finish and I gave it 4 stars. $45 Cdn.

Two lighter 2024 Rosés followed. 1) Agricola Gorgo Chiaretto di Bardolino, Veneto. Very delicate, straw and peach but nothing stood out. 2) Domaine la Rigouline (Coteaux d'Aix en Provence) was average to me. Raspberry, cherry, floral nose. Nothing stirred my soul!

Another 2024 followed and this one really got the crowds attention...Rimauresq Cru Classe, Cotes de Provence. Stoney soil showed, oh 70 yr old vines. 5 grape varieties, earthyness, touch of spice. Could have used a bigger pour but was only assisiting! This house gets great reviews on the UK forum, oh $42 Cdn.

On to the 2nd flight. 2023 Emilio Moro Cepa Hito Rosado (Ribera del Duero). Tempranillo, earty, medium color, med dry. Fresh aromatic nose with jasmine. I noted cranberry and raspberry. $30 Cdn..did not sell well, pity.

Next up was the 2024 Mazzarosa Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo Superiore. Another 4 star for me, very dark color, "more mineral" was shouted out. Lots of acidity..a warm climate wine said the leader. $30 Cdn and flew off the shelf.

The final wine was from Nova Scotia, the 2024 Lightfoot & Wolfville Rosé Big PN flavor profile, very nice finish. Perfumy nose, dryish, rather a light color, very mineral tones "did not notice the high residual sugar" thought our leader. A very good find, who would have thought east coast eh .$36 Cdn...Annapolis Valley.

Hey Bob - didn't see this until now.

I wonder what the residual sugar in the Nova Scotia wine was covering up.

What was the grape(s) used for the Mazzarosa?
