WTN: Zero Mostel

Out to dinner with friends the other night wherein they are Greek and were known to the bartender, which caused four glasses of this to show up at our table. It's called Mastiha (sometimes also spelled with a 'k', mastika) and my friend Vicki in particular is a fanatic of this liqueur from the island of Chios, where grows the neccessary evergreen that makes this liqueur so distinctive. I'd never even heard of it. But I sure liked it. Grain based, there are quite a few producers of it, in fact 12 or 13 were already listed on CT where I had to add this one from a producer called Veroni. Per Vicki many are sweeter, but this one is delightfully light and delicate with subtle notes of pine, anise and citrus. 30% alcohol, but it was neither strong nor hot.

It goes on the shopping list.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

So an evergreen liqueur. Nice. Years ago I bought a bottle of fir tree eau de vie. Quite distinctive.
