Friday we had lobsters, but no new wine, enjoyed leftover Champagne and Chardonnay
Saturday bluefish, spinach, and potatoes, with the 2004 Huet Clos du Bourg Sec Vouvray. A little oxidative at first, brightens with air, though time to drink up. Quince, honeycomb, hint of dried apricot. B
Sunday we started with oysters and the 1994 Ch.de Fieuzal Blanc (Pessac-Leognan). Grapefruit and lemon, some light almond notes, long finish. Just what I’d want in mature midtier white Bdx. Day 2 oxidative nutty notes much more apparent, but a good showing, and B+ first night.
Then tuna steaks, morel/pea pasta, broccoli.
1993 Rene Leclerc “ Lavaux St. Jacques” Gevrey-Chambertin 1er
Red raspberry and cranberry, tart ‘93 acids, a nice earthiness. Finish is moderate. Nothing transcendent but good showing from a 3rd tier producer I don’t really follow. B+/B
Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C drinkable. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice. Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.
