WTN: The past is present

• 1996 Abadia Retuerta Selección Especial Sardon de Duero - Spain, Castilla y León, Vino de la Tierra de Castilla y León (4/26/2025)
  From my late father’s cellar, I expected this to be well past its prime, but it still had some fruit, and was not remotely tired. Some dusty, leathery notes with some lingering spice from the original oak treatment added complexity, and the finish sustained the fruit. Quite lovely, especially considering the modest initial investment of $24.99.

This wine was a bit of a divisive Internet darling back in the late 1990s. I actually used a bottle in the first blind tasting I ever did. We had a bit of a dust up about it on the old “frames” WLDG.

I don't remember that fight, but let me guess - Victor de la Serna and Manuel?
These were quite modern but well made, I confess I'm surprised & impressed it lasted that well.

Yeah, I remember their back-and-forth and Manuel's "Spain is dead to me" proclamation.

I remember Spain is Dead to Me, but forgot Abadia Retuerta was part of the brawl.
