Both of these wines were opened at Friday night's birthday party but I didn't taste either until last night.
Brought by a guest:
2017 Bodegas Valdemar Rioja Conde de Valdemar Reserva Tempranillo Blend, Tempranillo
Over-extracted black currant fruit buried under pine cones and rosemary. I don't usually find American oak this offensive but this was absolutely undrinkable. Fed it to the rhododendrons.
From my cellar:
2018 Coudert Fleurie Clos de la Roilette Cuvée Tardive Gamay
Been two years since we opened one of these, and it still doesn't impress. A small part of the problem is that I compare everything to the exceptional 2010 where I first met this wine, but the larger problem is my across-the-board dislike for this vintage. That said, I went ahead and drank a glass because the Valdemar was so awful.
