WTN: All for one, and one for all

  • 1996 Opus One - USA, California, Napa Valley (3/20/2025)
Half bottle opened to accompany a lamb course of a tasting menu, it only needed ten minutes to blossom into a beautiful, classic Napa Bordeaux blend. Oak had integrated, tannins mellowed, and the fruit was in the dark cassis range, rather than anything plummy or jammy. It was in a fantastic place, much like many 1996 Napa Bordeaux variety wines that I have opened the last two years.

This bottle was from my late father’s cellar. I was thrilled by how well it showed.

And a half bottle you say. Very impressive.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

The two of us who shared it were both shocked and delighted!

What a great result!

Opus One is one of those wines like Mouton or Petrus - you look at it and postpone opening for too long instead of enjoying it at peak Glad the wine Gods smiled on you, David.

I've got a 92 and 93 I better get into, but they are the sort of wine that you build a dinner around.....

I would get into the ‘93 sooner rather than later.
