I took the train and subway to Columbus Circle for a dinner in Twin Tails (Deutsche Bank Center., former Time Warner). Lovely 3rd floor restaurant with expansive views of Central Park. Food (very good) is Southeast Asian themed

2014 Ledru Cuvee du Goulte Blanc de Noirs Champagne
Peach and pastry dough, almond/hazelnut, big but with vivacity. A-

2009 Ledru Grand Cru Brut Champagne
Apple, fresh baked dinner roll, chalky mineral finish. Very good but not worth current tariff to me. B+

Yellowtail crudo with watermelon nuoc cham, shiso ( I didn’t actually try, 6 pieces and 7 of us!)

Salmon Crudo with green apple, coconut, cashews

Whole Royal Dorade Sashimi

2010 Fevre Bougros Chablis Grand Cru
A little lactic on nose, ripe pit fruits, good cut. B+

2017 Fevre Bougros Chablis Grand Cru
Fresh, bright, deep and minerally. Limey citrus and white nectarine, long finish. A-

Satays (chicken and a peppered beef), spring roll, garlic shrimp

2009 Egon Muller Scharzhofberger Riesling Kabinett (AP #30)
Racy, flashy, and long, citrus and pear with long mineral finish. A-

Whole crab- succulent steamed legs and claws, fried rice in carapace

2012 Sauzet Champ Canet Puligny-Montrachet 1er

This smelled good when first opened but by time we got around to it the pox had settled firmly in. C+, sure there are great bottles

2020 Pierre Girardin Champ Gains Puligny-Montrachet 1er
Wasn’t a huge van of Vincent’s wines, but Pierre seems to have upped the game. Weighty without being hear, pear and white fruit blossoms with a light hazelnut overnote, lovely. A-

Cho Lon Duck (slices with crepes, plus fried wings and legs)
Long beans

2008 Domaine Michel Gaunoux Les Grands Epenots Pommard 1er

Young, tangy, earthy, good but give it time. B+

1999 Michel Gaunoux Les Grands Epenots Pommard 1er
Very smoky, roasted meats, black cherry B/B+

Beef Shank Khao Soi with coconut curry, crispy noodle salad (this and the dorade crudo were my favorite dishes, but really liked everything)

2010 G. Mascarello Monprivato Barolo

Cherries, rose petals, and a little leather, crunchy fruit, nice. B+/B

2004 G. Mascarello Monprivato Cà d’Morrisio Barolo Riserva
Whoa, gorgeous wine. Black cherry, gamebird, smoke, touch of road tar. Deep, long, and young,m but already delicious. A-/A

1981 Phelps Johannisberg Riesling
Dark, unctuous, molasses and caramel. More interesting than delicious to me. B/B-

MV Krug Grand Cuvee 159eme
Not a big Krug fan, but the 2nd time recently I’ve had and it ranks with 164eme as my favorite Krugs. Citrus, tangy acids, almonds, good finish. B+/B (was some people’s white WOTN)

Fun night

Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C drinkable. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice. Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.

Excellent wines and a broad range. Very nice.

All my 2009 Egon Müller wines are gone. They were too delicious to not drink them young.
