WTN: The Cure

by David M. Bueker » Wed Mar 19, 2025 9:41 pm

  • 2000 Château La Vieille Cure - France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Fronsac (3/18/2025)
From my late father’s cellar, I wasn’t expecting much, but was very pleasantly surprised. A stately, elegant Bordeaux that still retained dark cassis fruit, balanced tannins, and some mature cedar/brown tobacco/leather elements, it was in a good spot for drinking, but with time in hand. There was one more bottle in the cellar, and I was glad to find it.

I've always liked this producer. Never had one this far along, but wouldn't doubt that it could go there in good vintages.

This was the first time I had it. Wish I had been buying it back in the day.

I first encountered it in my Alaska days, half a lifetime ago.

Haven't come across that one before! Searched my cellar list using 'vielle' and 23 wines turned up - the French clearly like old stuff!

Made me do a date search and came up with a bunch of wines that need drinking - 1990 Ch. Chauvin? (I intend to be a chauvinist this week but not holding out much hope that it has lasted).l
