WTN: 2001 - a cellar odyssey

by David M. Bueker » Tue Mar 18, 2025 6:22 am

There are many good wines in the crypt (my late father’s wine cellar). There are also some great wines. The 2001 Dönnhoff Norheimer Kirschheck Riesling Spätlese was a great wine. My wife and I adore the Dönnhoff Kirschheck Spätlese when it’s young, but this was an entirely different beast with expansive texture, a burnished edge to the peach and cherry fruit, and a long, rich finish that then magically transitioned to laser focus. Quite extraordinary.
