Tried this new Riesling last night w/ friends:
1. Wohlmuth Riesling Ried Dr.Wunsch DAC: Sudsteiermark (13.0%; www.Wohlmuth.At; GrapeExpectations/Richmond/CO) Gerhard Wohlmuth/ Kitzeck-Sausal/Fresing/Au 2022: Light gold color; very fragrant floral/R/mango very slight pineapple/carnation some stony/chalky almost Calif-R-like quite attractive nose; fairly tart/tangy some mineral/stony/chalky some R/mango/floral/light carnations bit complex flavor; very long/tangy/mineral slight steely finish that follows flavor; a bit understated R that should age well & put on weight over 4-8 yrs; almost like a Calif R in style & definitely not German; nice balance of low-key R fruit & stony minerality; quite good w/ great potential but a bit pricey at $39.00 (KK)

1. I was attracted to this wine because you seldom see a R from the Sudsteiermark. This comes from a vnyd in one of the cooler areas of the Sudsteiermark. Reminds me a bit of some of the Slovene R's. Certainly not German & certainly not some of the more northern R of Austria, not as strong floral aromatic in it's R character.
