WTN: Green--Donkey and Goat

by Jenise » Sat Mar 15, 2025 9:46 pm

Over the course of a week I pecked away at this delight:

NV Donkey and Goat If/Then California White Blend
It's pretty stupid to post a TN on an NV wine since one's impression is particular to a particular bottling and god knows which one someone else has. That said, I see the picture of one on CT that had 600-some cases, where mine was from a batch of 315. Still worth posting about because it's one of the best darn white wines at under $20 I've had in a LONG time. No idea what's in there but it's got a big presence in the way of marsanne but could also include chardonnay or chenin. Superb concentration and mouthfeel, but only 12.9% alcohol. The first night I had planned to have just one glass but couldn't resist a second and I'm not sure how I resisted drinking the whole damn bottle. The rest was drunk over the next five or six days and the last glass was as good as the first.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

I didn’t know that they made anything like that.

Highly recommended by my favorite local retailer with whose palate I'm very calibrated. Dropped by a few weeks ago during another tasting, and I never show up without buying something to be supportive, and I didn't care for the wines being poured (i.e. that Austrian carb-mac Zwiegelt I posted about recently). I bought this and a Pinot Meunier from Donkey & Goat, and a magnum of Clos Cibonne rose. God knows what I am going to do with it but it's really neat to own one. :)

While 'donkey and goat' sound a tad outre, there are worse names - principally from Australia - Ball Buster, Big Pecker, and Mad Housewife are self explanatory, but I always thought that Marilyn Merlot was a pretty good one and the South African pun, Goats Do Roam is pretty good.
